2003: Season In Review

The 2003 season was the first ever year that I maintained this site. I missed some shows, yet I was very pleased at the number of shows I made it to. Some of the winners and runner ups were hard to chose from considering most trucks weren't at 2 or more shows I attended. First lets take a look at Truck/Driver of the year.

Truck/Driver of the year: Raminator/Mark Hall, In Crown Point Mark lost to fellow teammate Dale Beaner in Ramunnition in the Finals. Yet, Mark came out and lit it up in freestyle. Huge air was about all you could do in Crown Point and Mark did just that. In Joilet Mark took a clean sweep in everything. Mark had the fastest time in Qualifying, He beat Larry Swim and Scorpian King in the finals and edged off Linsey Weenk in freestyle. (Picture from Joilet freestyle.)

Truck/Driver of the year runner up, Brian Towensend/Boogey Van/Bear Foot Old School. Brain only made it to the second round in Valpo, which really didn't have a set bracket. When Brian Towensend came out for freestyle he put on a show. Including launching off of the dirt hill. Then there was Eve of Destruction at Rockford Speedway. There were two trucks in attendence. The schelduled trucks were Mummy and Ozz Monster. When we showed up it was Boogey Van, and we were glad it was. Ozz Monster Broke during the show and the rain was falling, then Brian came out and made a dozen or more passes over the set of cars. Each time with bigger air. Brian put together the best freestyle preformance with one set of cars I have ever seen. Brian unexpectedly showed up to Joilet too. The lineup originaly called for the Creten's Bear Foot and Monster Patrol to be there. Yet Shafer showed up, with Scorpian King and Old School Bear Foot. I first found out when we were driving to a display prior to the show. I had no clue what truck was going to be at the display. When we were getting close I saw a Blue truck and I said to my self, "It can't be Boogey Van?" Well it wasen't Boogey Van, but it was the same driver. Brian ended up breaking in Racing, yet he came back in freestyle, with a limpy truck to make a couple of sweet jumps clearing all 5 and then some plus a slap wheelie.

Team of the Year/Team Ram HBR. Team Ram cleaned house in the Crown Point and Joilet. They didn't miss a beat winning everything. When they battled each other in Crown Point, Ramunnition came out the winner.

Team of the Year: Runner Up/Frankish Enterprises: Team Canada roared into Joilet looking to knock off some big guns, including just a little bit of Shafer's stable plus Team Ram. Luck did not fall there way in the first round as they were pitted aginst Team Ram. They both lost but put up good races. In freestyle they both put on a good show. Don attacked the pyramid several times, Lindsey took on the FMX hill. Great prefomances from them in Joilet.

Race of the year: Ramunnition vs. Scorpian King, Joilet October 2003. Both trucks are dead even coming in and out of the turn. Swim but the pedal a little farther to the floor to take the win.

Scorpian King flying to the finsh in a close race with Ramunnition.

Race of the year/Runner Up: Ozz Monster vs. Frankenstein, Valporaiso August: A great race where both trucks were dead even through out the whole track. Shafer wins and ends up losing to Mummy in the finals.
